Privacy: waitlist

The Mon Sous-Chef app isn't open yet. For now, this site presents the project, a directory of recipe websites and a waitlist. This notice explains, in plain terms, what personal information this site collects, why, who processes it for us, how long we keep it and what your rights are.

Who we are

This site is run by Mon Sous-Chef, a sole proprietorship in Québec.

What we collect

• Waitlist: your email address, the site's language when you signed up, and the date you signed up.
• Technical data: our server logs record, for each request, your IP address, the page requested and your browser, to keep the site secure and working.

We don't ask for your name or your phone number. We use no advertising, no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics. We don't sell your personal information.

Why we use it

• To tell you by email when Mon Sous-Chef opens.
• To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.

Who processes your information for us

• Amazon Web Services (a U.S. company; data stored in its Montréal region, in Québec): hosting of the site and the database, and our server logs. The data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
• Google (a U.S. company; servers in the United States and elsewhere): our email (Google Workspace), for the emails you write to us.

As U.S. companies, they may be required by U.S. law to disclose information they hold to that country's authorities, even when the information is stored in Canada.

These providers may use your information only to provide their services to us.

How long we keep it

• Your sign-up is kept until you leave the list, and deleted at the latest 30 days after the email telling you Mon Sous-Chef has opened.
• The emails you write to us are kept while we handle your request, then for at most 1 year.
• Our server logs are deleted after 30 days.
• Backups of our database are kept for at most 35 days: what we delete is gone from the backups within 35 days at most.

How we protect your information

Your information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Only the person in charge of the protection of personal information has access to it, and the accounts that give access to it are protected by two-factor authentication. Our database cannot be reached from the Internet.

Cookies and browser storage

• _sous_chef_key: a session cookie that remembers your language and protects the sign-up form. It is encrypted and goes away when you close your browser.
• phx:theme and phx:language-suggestion-dismissed: your light or dark theme choice, and that you closed the language suggestion, kept in your browser.

Your rights

You can ask to access your personal information, have it corrected or deleted, withdraw your consent, or receive a copy in a structured, commonly used technological format. To leave the waitlist, write to contact@monsouschef.ca, or use the link in the email announcing the opening. We answer in writing within 30 days; access is free.

To complain about how we protect your information, write to the person in charge at contact@monsouschef.ca; we answer in writing within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec or, if you live elsewhere in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

When the app opens

Before the app opens, we will publish our full privacy policy and terms of use, which will replace this notice.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice; the date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated. If we make an important change, we will say so on the site.

If the French and English versions differ, the French version prevails.
